Disclaimer: Do we have to switch to Divi 5 now?
✅ For a new site: yes, clearly recommended.
⚠️ For an existing site: migration to be tested on staging first, but Divi 5 includes a compatibility system that allows easy downgrading.

The release of Divi 5 marks a major evolution of the famous builder/theme of Elegant Themes. Faster, more modern and completely rebuilt, Divi 5 does not just improve its performance: it also introduces a new generation of modules (in addition to existing ones) designed for much more flexible layouts.
Among the most visible innovations, 8 new modules are emerging:

- Group
- Carousel Group
- Before / After Image
- Canvas Portal
- Dropdown
- Icon List
- Link
- Lottie
In this article, I offer an overview of these new modules...
🎉 Good news!
Divi 5 was officially released from its beta phase on February 26, 2026. Read the official article here.
Divi 5: much more than an update!
Before talking about modules, it must be understood that Divi 5 is a complete redesign of the theme and its page builder.
Divi abandoned its old system based on shortcodes to adopt a modern, lighter and more efficient architecture, including:
- Flexbox and CSS Grid
- a faster rendering of Visual Builder
- a global variable design system
- advanced dynamic features like the Loop Builder
Note: I made you discover the Loop Builder in video when it was released...
As a result, the new modules are not just additions, they are exploiting a new design logic.
The 8 new modules of Divi 5
1️⃣ The Group module
The module Group is probably the most important conceptually. It acts as an advanced container allowing to group several modules into the same logical structure.

Before Divi 5:
- we used sections → rows → columns
- the structure was sometimes limited
With the groups:
- you can freely nest elements
- create complex layouts more easily
- apply styles and interactions to a set of elements
2️⃣ The Carousel Group module
This new module allows – unlike the old sliders of Divi 4 – to imagine each slide as a blank canvas in which you can insert any Divi module!

What you can do:
- Carousel of testimonies
- team slider
- interactive portfolio
- WooCommerce Dynamic Products
- Content generated automatically via Loop Builder
Each slide can contain any module:
- text
- images
- buttons
- nested modules
- etc.
The module also allows:
- autoplay
- personalized navigation
- number of slides visible
- Advanced animations
In practice, it replaces several old slider modules.
3️⃣ The Before / After Image module
This module allows to display two comparative images with an interactive cursor. You certainly know this well... And we agree: this module really missed in Divi 4!

Cases where you may need this module:
- Photographer's site: before/after for a photo editor
- real estate site : renovation of an apartment
- portfolio website: web design redesign
- e-commerce: product comparison
- etc.
So far, this type of effect often required an external plugin or JavaScript. So it's a good thing it's integrated into Divi 5.
4️⃣ The Canvas Portal module
The module Canvas Portal introduces a modern display logic off canvas. It allows you to open content:
- in overlay
- in side panel
- in zone independent of the main layout
- Popup

5️⃣ Dropdown module
The Dropdown module allows you to create custom drop-down content without DIY.

Unlike classic toggles, this module has a more flexible structure and customizable interactions. It can be used for modern FAQs, interactive menus or educational sections.
6️⃣ The Icon List module
Little novelty... but very expected. The module Icon List finally makes it easy to create lists with icons.

Before, you had to hack to add icons to a list... With this new module, you can add a different icon per item, manage styles globally and choose layout (online or in list).
7️⃣ Link module
As its name indicates, the Link module allows to insert links in your layouts. This is especially useful for building a custom menu.

And besides, I felt that this module will be part of a more global concept in the future... Perhaps this is the first step of a « Nav Builder » (a menu builder)?
8️⃣ The Lottie module
The Lottie module brings modern animations directly into Divi 5. I've already told you how to handle the lotties in Divi 4... Now we no longer need « Dodge » thanks to this new native module.
Lottie animations are ultra light and perfectly sharp at all sizes, which is why webdesigners love them!
At the module level, you can control:
- speed
- the trigger
- the loop
- user interaction
- etc.

👉 Perfect to boost a site without weighing the load.
In conclusion, why do these modules really change Divi?
With these 8 new modules, Divi 5 does not just evolve, he finally catches up with his delay (and I hope this is just the beginning)... The real novelty is not the number of modules, it is the construction philosophy :
✅ more modular
✅ more dynamic
✅ less dependent on rigid structures
✅ closer to modern builders
Divi gradually becomes a design system complete, and no longer just a builder page.
The Trio « Group + Group Carousel + Loop Builder » In particular opens the door to dynamic layouts that were previously complex to achieve without specific development.
If you use Divi regularly, these new features will quickly become indispensable in your workflow.
